Mitch Barany is a film director and visual effects artist. He recently produced, directed, and edited City of Noise the latest experimental music video from The Summerlad For the project Mitch collaborated with MTV award winning cinematographer Brad Rushing and did the majority of the 85 post VFX shots himself. City of Noise was recently selected as 1 of 10 films from across Alberta to play at The Best of Alberta Short films at the 2008 Calgary International Film Festival and is slated to screen at numerous festivals and be broadcast in North America and Europe. In 2007 he worked with award winning cinematographer Patrick Mc Laughlin to complete the short film No Sense which screened at festivals globally and won the audience choice award at the 2007 Small Town Film Festival. In 2005 He won first place at the Big Rock Eddies commercial competition and was selected to screen as a finals in 2004. His winning commercial The Cowboy Gs can be viewed in the Gallery section of this website. Mitch stays active in the Independent Film and Arts community. From 2005 to 2008 he served as an executive board member for Emmedia gallery and production society. He has recently become a board member for The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers and is the chair for their Production Committee. His film projects have been awarded grants from The National Film Board, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, and the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. When Mitch is not making films he farms with his father in Southern Alberta.
