Of sicialian origins, he came to Tuscany in 1987. He enliven his artistic growth cultivating, together with his passion for the dance, his creative interest for figurative arts.He takes part to the 80s expressionist movements of “Pittura Livernese”.This trend will give body and cohesion to his art, becoming the focal point of artistic balance of Mr. Arena.
After a classic formative and professional course, (academic, classic and modern formation in Italy and abroad; dancing with Gail Bain in Paris, Katherine Hamnet Dance Co. In London, The Ensemble of Micha Van Hoecke), in 1990 he creates his own company Effetto Parallelo, that become projected in figurative and multi-media arts. Several theater works and performances are so born, mixed with different arts (it’s a long list, please see our site www.effettoparallelo.com). From 1994 he starts on a new path: from theater scenes to a new form of multi-media contamination in urban spaces. This contamination pushes him ever more to use visual arts. In the 90s, his performances become a mixing of dance and videos, in perfect combination.
A big push to his dedication to this new form of expression, comes from his first work and first price received for Ipnotic Carillon, presented in 2000 at Riccione TTV, festival dedicated to the visual arts, with several internationally known directors as Bertolucci, Green way and others (please see the catalogue).
Other works follow such as Il Giardino Del Silenzio (The Garden of Silence), commissioned by Sovrintendenza Ai Beni Culturali, to re-develop Teatro Rossi, a wonderful sixth century structure, from wich the restauration works were started. The year after,1998, the carver Ivan Timer
commissioned an interaction video for one of his work. The video Sideras Amoris was so born, later shown in the major european capitals.
In the following years other videos are created: Ca Viendra, in collaboration with Coop Toscana-Lazio, Armunia Festival Costa degli Etruschi, Provincia di Pisa, ...

Along the aseptic and cold corridors of London Underground, two girls, belonging to a strange family, run to obey to some enigmatic people in white coats. They are charged with a mission that transform them in warriors of peace,ready to obey, very determined to reach their aim by any means: they start hunting a crippled man, that sluggishly spends his time on the edge of the yellow line that mark the end of the platform and the chasm of the railway.
A strange fear: two faraway figures, maybe a menace to his simple life?Here an unrelenting hunt starts for the girls, and an unexplained and panting run for the man. The "warriors" push on strong, deep and sure. Made up hiding places in corners and strange sites become the only hope for the man and his spirit that want to run away free. Tired and shattered he loses his walking props, he drags himself ahead with the fear of an unknown fate.
The rithmic flow of run and chase stops inevitably in front of the same people in white coats, that are waiting, sure that their adepts would bring the man to them, to give him a new destiny, a different life, a better life? The warriors go back home, fulfilled by their obeyence. The strange people in white coats have already transformed the man, a renewed, distinct gentleman.... But??!!!! |
