VIDEO SYNOPSYS
Study on Repetition is, as the name suggests, a study on the process of repetition and the cracks that open in the process of signification once that the repetition of a specific structure is taken to its limits - here through the permutation of main characters of the plot. A husband gets home and finds his wife in bed with another man. This simple scene is taken to interesting consequences through its continuous repetition in structure - someone finding someone in bed with someone else - and continuous permutation in content - all the characters involved slide through different positions in each one of the repetitions. The result is an always evolving and yet steady paced story that shifts between representing notions of the unconscious and being represented by them. The film plays both with the humor of classic silent comedies and with the more contemporary approach of deconstruction and (dis)solution of storytelling, enabling the meanings to shift and slide as the characters change place. A man, his wife, her lover and a flower. Those are the characters that through constantly exchanging positions in the plot, reveal characteristics inherent to being a husband, a wife and so on, that are normally hidden or suppressed by the common order of things.
