Artist BIO
British born Mark Withers is a life long cineaste. Fascinated by the medium since his first cinema visit in 1978 (Superman), Mark began writing scripts and planning out the best ways to make video films with friends, age 11. Age 16 this ambition finally became reality with self taught stop motion shorts and non-narrative studies of local wildlife and structures, set to music. Big Brush Films formed whilst Mark was still at college in 1992. The name came from his first year short, 'The Big Brush', which gained end of year notoriety when a special peep show style booth was built by college authorities for the public exhibition, protecting easily offended patrons from this gruesome art. After graduating top of his class in 1994, Mark worked on various pop promos, commercials and short films, before putting his money where his mouth was and gathering a sixty strong cast and crew to produce possibly the lowest budgeted motion picture of all time, 'Darktaile'. Shooting from December 1997 it would take until March 2001 before the film was complete and ready for screening to surprisingly supportive reviews and interesting points of view, regarding its obscure narrative. An experiment in DV happened with 2002's 90 minute 'Money Shot', before the comedy short 'Schnibber' was picked up for International release. Mark then spent time in Canada where he shot 'Strangers in the Light' to represent that country as part of a worldwide film project and co-wrote a 12 part television show greenlit by Fox. In 2005 Mark directed the feature length mockumentary 'Hardcore: A Poke into the Adult Film Orifice' and now in 2007 has just completed 'Meat Market' a 20 minute dark comedy, whilst developing feature film number four 'Baby Swipes' to shoot in 2008. Mark has additionally written 17 other feature length film scripts and occasionally lends an un-credited hand to other projects.
